Antwerp does a 'Hallertje' and forgets to register a player for the Champions League

Antwerp FC has committed a 'Haller incident'. The club forgot to register the 24-year-old left-back Sam Vines for the Champions League - and that was not the intention, admits coach Mark van Bommel.

Due to an error, Vines did not appear on Antwerp's European list, while Owen Wijndal, another newcomer, is on it. Van Bommel refers to it as an administrative mistake. 'What do I mean by that? That we didn't do it correctly. Vines should have been on the list. We made a mistake, and it can't be corrected now,' Van Bommel told Het Laatste Nieuws.

Vines is currently recovering from an injury, but that's not the reason for his absence. 'How is he dealing with it? Well... Everyone wants to be on that list, right? Of course, he's disappointed. But he's now focusing on his recovery, which is the most important thing.'

The situation is reminiscent of that of Sébastien Haller, who was missing from Ajax's European list in the winter of 2021 and therefore couldn't play in the Europa League.
