For Krul, the transfer represents promotion: The Canaries are no longer competing in the Premier League, while remarkably, that's the case for The Hatters. The Hague-born goalkeeper is well-acquainted with the top tier in England, having made a total of 222 appearances in the league with the yellow-shirted team and with Newcastle United.

Krul, at the age of 35, will be competing in manager Rob Edwards' squad alongside Thomas Kaminski, with whom he can converse in their shared language: Kaminski hails from the Flemish town of Dendermonde, and he also joined the Bedfordshire club just this transfer window. He stood between the posts in Luton's Premier League debut last Saturday, which ended in a loss against Brighton & Hove Albion. Together, they will battle it out to replace promotion goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.

The fifteen-time Dutch international, who will wear number 23 in Luton just like he did during the 2014 World Cup, is looking forward to it. 'The club's story speaks for itself, the last nine years have been amazing, and I'm excited to be part of the journey. It's been a whirlwind for the club,' Krul said on the website of his new employer, which rapidly ascended from the fifth to the top level in England.
