Atalanta and Fiorentina both experienced the loss of key players to Juventus Teun Koopmeiners and Nicolás González, respectively but that didn’t stop them from delivering an exciting first half in their clash.

Fiorentina struck first with a goal from Lucas Martínez Quarta, who capitalized on a set-piece opportunity to put his team ahead. However, Atalanta quickly responded with Mario Retegui heading in from a perfect cross delivered by Ademola Lookman, Atalanta’s standout performer. The back-and-forth nature of the match continued as Fiorentina regained the lead when Moise Kean tapped in a well-placed cross from Robin Gosens, showing the dynamic pace of both teams in attack.

However, Atalanta wasn’t finished. David de Gea, making his highly anticipated Serie A debut after being signed on a free transfer, could not prevent his new side from turning the match around before halftime. Charles De Ketelaere leveled the score with a strong header from an Éderson free-kick, which left De Gea with no chance to react. Just a minute later, Ademola Lookman once again took center stage, completing a solo run down the left flank and surprising the former Manchester United goalkeeper with a sharp strike into the near post. This quick double saw Atalanta go into the break with the lead.

Despite Fiorentina’s efforts in the second half, Atalanta's disciplined defense, led by Marten de Roon, managed to keep them at bay, securing a 3-2 victory. This marked Atalanta's second win of the Serie A season, putting them in a strong position in the league as they continue to build momentum.

Meanwhile, in another Sunday fixture, AS Roma continued their frustrating start to the Serie A campaign. Coach Daniele De Rossi’s side once again dropped points, leaving them winless after four matchdays. This is the first time since the 2010/11 season that Roma has gone this long without a victory in the opening rounds. Despite this, Roma seemed to be in control for much of their away match against Genoa.

In the 37th minute, Artem Dovbyk, who joined Roma from Girona during the summer transfer window, opened the scoring with his first Serie A goal. After a lengthy VAR check, the goal was finally confirmed, providing Roma with a crucial advantage. The team looked to be on course for their first victory of the season, but as has been the case so far this year, they struggled to maintain their lead.

In the closing stages of the match, Genoa pressed hard, searching for an equalizer. Their efforts were rewarded in stoppage time when Roma’s defense faltered, allowing Genoa to snatch a late equalizer, securing a 1-1 draw. The result was another disappointment for De Rossi’s Roma, as they continue to search for their first victory of the season amid growing concerns about their early form.

With this latest result, Roma will need to regroup quickly as pressure mounts on De Rossi to turn things around. For Atalanta, however, the outlook is much brighter, with their attacking players finding form and their defense holding firm, setting them up for further success as the season progresses.
