Brighton & Hove Albion, the day after their Europa League victory over Ajax, has announced the contract extension of top talent Evan Ferguson. The nineteen-year-old Irishman is now tied to the club until mid-2029.
In April, Ferguson already signed a contract until the summer of 2028. However, the performances of the talented striker have been outstanding this season. Therefore, Brighton has decided to upgrade and extend his contract by an additional year. 'He deserves this new contract and he has a very big future ahead of him,' said his coach Roberto De Zerbi via the club channels.
This season, Ferguson has scored five goals in seven starts and four substitute appearances. Additionally, he has become an international player for Ireland. In his first eight international matches, Ferguson has scored three goals. In total, he has already scored fifteen goals for Brighton's first team. He particularly impressed with his hat-trick against Newcastle United in early September.
'He has shown his qualities at both club and international level since joining the team earlier this calendar year,' says Technical Director David Weir. 'Evan is a brilliant young talent and we are very happy for him. We look forward to continuing to work with him and follow his development.'
