The Dutch full-back has played five league games for Inter this season. In those games, he contributed two goals and two assists. He is the first defender in the five major European leagues to achieve this feat this season. Although Inter lost on Wednesday, Dumfries' performance was well-received in Italy.

'The performances of the Dutchman are becoming increasingly convincing,' concluded Calciomercato. 'Up until the second half, he was the standout player. He is among the best players in Simone Inzaghi's squad. The former PSV player is the driving force behind the great start to the season for both Inter and the Dutch national team. He's impressing again after a subdued season in which he also faced critics. Last summer, he was even considered for a departure, but now he is one of the pillars of this team.'

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Internazionale itself is also very pleased with Dumfries' form. The Italian newspaper writes that they even want to renegotiate his contract. Dumfries is currently under contract until the summer of 2025, but Inter hopes to extend that agreement soon. In doing so, he would also receive a financial upgrade. According to La Gazzetta, his current salary is 2.5 million euros per year.
