Fabrizio Romano reports a mega transfer: Liverpool pays 127 million euros

Moisés Caicedo is expected to be presented as Liverpool's newest acquisition, reportedly on Friday, according to Fabrizio Romano. The defensive midfielder is coming from Brighton & Hove Albion, which will receive up to 127 million euros.

With that transfer fee, Caicedo becomes the most expensive player ever at a British club.

According to The Athletic, which confirms the transfer shortly after Romano's report, Brighton held an 'auction' until Thursday night, and Liverpool was the club that submitted the highest bid. Chelsea is said to have offered around 115 million euros.

It is expected that personal terms will not be an issue, and Caicedo will play for Liverpool next season. The 21-year-old midfielder will surpass Enzo Fernández (who left Benfica for Chelsea for 121 million euros in January) as the most expensive player ever at a British club.

According to Romano, Liverpool wants to 'avoid surprises' and conclude the transfer as quickly as possible. The medical examination is scheduled for Friday morning. Caicedo had four more years on his contract with Brighton, with an option for an additional year. The Ecuadorian played 53 official matches for The Seagulls.

The transfer fee for Caicedo is significantly higher than what would be expected based on data. Taking into account factors such as his qualities (SciSkill), position on the field, age, experience, contract duration, and the league he plays in, his xTV (expected transfer value) is only 35.6 million euros.
