Rio Ferdinand claims that there is finally a breakthrough in the takeover of Manchester United. According to the former English international, the bid from Qatar is being accepted.
A consortium led by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has been in the picture for some time to take over the club managed by Erik ten Hag from the Glazer family, who have put Manchester United up for sale after eighteen years. English businessman Jim Ratcliffe, CEO of INEOS, also submitted a bid.
A breakthrough in the takeover had been elusive after multiple bidding rounds, but according to Ferdinand, progress is now being made. "The Manchester United takeover is imminent," claims the former player of The Red Devils on his YouTube channel. "We are hearing that the Qatari bid has been accepted."
Ferdinand expressed his joy over the news, which is confirmed by Reuters. According to the news agency, United is in negotiations with the Qatari consortium to obtain exclusivity. The Glazers reportedly view the bid of approximately six billion dollars as the best option at the moment.
The situation remains fluid, according to Reuters sources. A new bid from Ratcliffe could change everything again. For Ten Hag, the impending takeover would be good news as there is currently much uncertainty regarding the transfer budget he will have to work with.
