Thiago Almada has been named the top talent of this season in Major League Soccer. Before the season concludes in the United States, the league organization distributes various awards and the former Ajax target was chosen.
In August of this year, VI reported that Ajax was targeting Almada, who is best utilized as an attacking midfielder.
A deal did not materialize, which meant that after winning the World Cup title – he came on as a substitute in the group match against Poland – he completed the season with Atlanta United.
The club must have been pleased, as Almada was directly involved in no fewer than thirty goals in 2023. That accounts for nearly half of the total goals that Atlanta scored in the MLS. Almada himself scored eleven goals and provided nineteen assists. Last season, the standout player also received accolades, being named the season's best newcomer. This year, the award went to former VVV striker Georgios Giakoumakis.
