Hato, thanks to his substitute appearance, among the youngest Dutch national team players of all time

Jorrel Hato is the fifth-youngest international in the 118-year history of the Dutch national team. The Ajax defender came on as a substitute on Tuesday evening during the European Championship qualification match against Gibraltar at the start of the second half.

Hato, born on March 7, 2006, is this season one of the few bright spots at the struggling Ajax team. National coach Ronald Koeman included the very young defender in the Dutch team partly due to the many injuries in the back line.

At seventeen years and eight months old, Hato only has to yield to four players on the list of the youngest Dutch national team players of all time, including Matthijs de Ligt (see table at the bottom of this message).

The record has been held since time immemorial by Jan van Breda Kolff, who was only seventeen years and two months old when he played against Belgium in 1911. The HVV player even scored in that 3-1 victory in the friendly match.

Incidentally, Thijs Dallinga also made his debut for the Dutch team as a substitute on Tuesday evening. Like Hato, the Toulouse striker came on right after halftime.
