Inter Miami secured a victory against Los Angeles FC on Sunday night to Monday morning. Lionel Messi didn't play a leading role this time in the match against former Italian international Giorgio Chiellini.
Last week, Nashville ended Inter Miami's winning streak since Messi's arrival, but the team led by Argentine coach Gerardo Martino resumed their MLS momentum against Los Angeles FC, who had Chiellini in the starting lineup. Former Arsenal player Carlos Vela also started for the home team.
Although Chiellini and his teammates managed to contain Messi at the Banc of California Stadium, the visitors still came away with all three points. Facundo Farias, Jordi Alba, and Leonardo Campana found the back of the net for Inter Miami. Campana scored the third goal assisted by Messi, who himself was denied by Los Angeles FC goalkeeper John McCarthy from close range.
Ryan Hollingshead salvaged some pride for Los Angeles FC just before the end of the match, as they sit third in the Western Conference of the MLS. Despite their unbeaten run since Messi's arrival, Inter Miami still plays a secondary role in the Eastern Conference. The club, co-owned by David Beckham, remains second to last in the standings.
