Luis Suárez seems to be aiming for a reunion with Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets. The Grêmio striker is even willing to take a pay cut to facilitate his move to Inter Miami. However, the transfer is far from straightforward.
Inter Miami seems to want to revive the golden Barcelona era and is well on its way with the signings of Messi, Alba, and Busquets. Manager Gerardo Martínez also welcomes Suárez to join. 'But there are still many obstacles. It's not just about Inter Miami,' he said in American media.
According to Brazilian media, including UOL Esporte, Suárez is willing to give up a significant portion of his salary to terminate his contract with Grêmio, which has one year remaining. However, that doesn't solve all the problems because in Major League Soccer, only three players can be designated as 'Designated Players,' meaning they earn more than the salary cap allows. Inter Miami already has Messi, Busquets, and Leonardo Campana as 'Designated Players.' It is likely that Campana will either transfer or accept a pay cut to free up a spot for Suárez.
'For questions about Suárez, you should ask the president,' says Grêmio coach Renato Gaucho. 'I expected there would be questions about him, but I can't answer them.'
