Harry Kane has already secured his first record in the Bundesliga. The 30-year-old striker scored a hattrick against SV Darmstadt 98 on Saturday and has already notched up twelve goals in nine matches. This has never been achieved by a newcomer in the German league before.
After the match, in which Bayern won 8-0, there was a lot of praise for Kane. His shot from his own half, in particular, made headlines worldwide. At Bayern's 5-0 lead, the striker noticed that goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen was positioned unusually far from his goal.
'I received the ball and saw out of the corner of my eye that the keeper was in a strange position,' Kane told Sky Sports. 'So, I thought: we're already up 4-0, so I'll just give it a try.'
Kane found the target and electrified the Allianz Arena. With a hattrick and an 8-0 victory, the Englishman eventually walked off the field. Coach Thomas Tuchel was delighted for his striker. 'When you're new to a club, you want to grow and establish your place in the team as quickly as possible. As a striker, there's nothing better than scoring. His whole family was there, and so were his friends. You can feel that on the field. That shot from his own half was extraordinary,' Tuchel concluded.
Plastic bag
Naturally, after the match, Kane took the ball home, which is customary when you score a hattrick. The striker didn't need a special bag or box for it. During the post-match interviews, Kane stood with a plastic bag in his hand containing the match ball. 'Will I find a nice spot for it at home? Well, I need to find a home first,' the striker chuckled, as he's still staying in a hotel in Munich.
Kane received praise both domestically and internationally for his performance against Darmstadt. According to Abendzeitung, his long-range shot was a contender for Goal of the Year, and Tageszeitung wrote about the 'Kane frenzy' at Bayern. 'This goal will be talked about for a long time.'
