Tahith Chong will be a player for Luton Town next season. The promoted club is acquiring the midfielder from Birmingham City.
Luton Town confirms the arrival of the Dutchman on official channels. The 23-year-old Chong scored four goals and provided five assists in 38 Championship matches for Birmingham City last season. So far in his career, Chong has played in five Premier League matches. During the 71 minutes he was given in a Manchester United shirt, the former youth international did not score a goal or provide an assist.
"I'm looking forward to meeting the fans and earning their trust," Chong says in his first interview as a Luton player. "In the few hours that I've been here, I already get the feeling that it's really a family club. I think that's important, because every club faces setbacks - things won't always go well - but if you're a family club, you get through it together, and it's easier as a family."
Chong received his youth training at Feyenoord and moved to Old Trafford in 2016. A breakthrough at The Mancunians didn't materialize, after which he was loaned out to Werder Bremen and Club Brugge. Birmingham City secured the Dutchman last year until the summer of 2026. Luton is reportedly paying 4.5 million euros for the services of the left-footed player.
With that amount, Chong would immediately become the most expensive purchase in the history of The Hatters. The old record was held by Carlton Morris. The striker was acquired last summer for two million euros from FC Barnsley.
Luton Town begins its Premier League adventure with an away match against Brighton & Hove Albion. The first match at the highest level of England at Kenilworth Road is against Wout Weghorst's Burnley.
