Internazionale and Manchester United have reached an agreement on a transfer fee for Andre Onana, as reported by various sources in Italy and England late Sunday evening. The former Ajax player can now undergo the medical examination to then complete his dream transfer.
According to sources including Sky Sport Italia, United will pay a transfer fee of fifty million euros for Onana. The amount can potentially rise to 54 million euros with bonuses. If all bonus agreements come into effect, the 27-year-old Cameroonian will become the third most expensive goalkeeper ever.
Kepa Arrizabalaga currently holds the top spot in that regard. In 2018, Chelsea paid 80 million euros to acquire the 28-year-old Basque goalkeeper from Athletic de Bilbao. Alisson Becker is second on the list. The 30-year-old Brazilian departed AS Roma for Liverpool in 2018 for a fee of 62.5 million euros. Gianluigi Buffon is currently third. Juventus acquired the legendary Italian goalkeeper from Parma in 2001 for 52.8 million euros.
Onana will undergo the medical examination soon, after which the final formalities will be completed. The reunion with Erik ten Hag is almost a reality. The two had a successful partnership at Ajax, and Onana is expected to play a crucial role in building up play from the back, an aspect that Ten Hag emphasized during his debut season at Old Trafford. Goalkeeper David de Gea departed the third-placed English club earlier this summer on a free transfer.
