Manchester City has strengthened its squad with Matheus Nunes. The midfielder declined to train with Wolverhampton Wanderers last week in order to force a transfer, and he has succeeded in doing so.
City announced the transfer on Friday morning. The 25-year-old Portuguese player has signed a contract until the summer of 2028. According to various English media outlets, the deal involves a sum of 62 million euros. Following defender Josko Gvardiol, midfielder Mateo Kovacic, and forward Jeremy Doku, Nunes is the fourth summer signing.
According to English media, Wolves have also secured a ten percent sell-on clause. Additionally, Tommy Doyle has taken the opposite path. The 21-year-old midfielder has come on loan from City, with an option to buy. The English youth international is set to replace Nunes at Molineux.
Nunes emerged from the youth ranks of Portuguese club Ericeirense and made his way through Estoril and Sporting Portugal before joining Wolverhampton in 2022. The English club had already paid 45 million euros for the versatile creative midfielder at that time, who can play in various positions. Pep Guardiola had previously referred to him as 'one of the best players in the world.'
