Silva still had two years remaining on his contract with Man City, and he has now added another year to it. Particularly, Barcelona will be disappointed with how things turned out, as the Catalans were working to gather the financial resources to lure Silva away from Man City.

President Joan Laporta and sporting directors Mateu Alemany and Deco of Barcelona had reportedly already given their approval for a deal, but Man City proved more efficient in the contract negotiations.

Silva has been playing in England since 2017 and last season marked his two-hundredth appearance in the Premier League. He has won the English league title five times and added Champions League victory to his resume last season. 'I've had a wonderful time here, and I'm happy to extend my time here. Winning the treble was very special; it's satisfying to be part of a team that's so hungry, Silva said.
