Manchester United really mishandled this very poorly

Manchester United's decision to part ways with Mason Greenwood is causing a lot of controversy in England. The club chose not to continue with the 21-year-old forward after he was identified as a suspect in a rape case.

"I would say the process has been quite dramatic," club legend Gary Neville shared his opinion on Sky Sports. "When dealing with important and difficult situations like this, you need authoritative leadership coming from the top, and Manchester United hasn't had that."

Neville believes that it took far too long for Manchester United to make their decision public. "They've finally done it. It was clear from day one, for me and everyone who saw the initial evidence that was released, that he wouldn't play for Manchester United again. Personally, I feel very uncomfortable about this situation. I think Manchester United, as an institution and as a football club and what it stands for, has handled this really poorly."

Public Opinion
Analyst Jamie Carragher had his doubts about the nature of the decision on Sky Sports. "I think we all agree that the right decision has been made. But I do feel like public opinion almost forced Manchester United into action. You almost start to question what decision Manchester United would have reached if these stories hadn't leaked."

Chris Sutton from The Daily Mail takes a swipe at CEO Richard Arnold. "He portrayed himself as a dilly-dallier throughout this whole process. It was January 30, 2022 when Greenwood was arrested after that material was posted on social media, and February 2 of this year when the charges against him were dramatically dropped. He could have been much more candid, but instead, we had to wait until Monday, eighteen months after the arrest, for him to come to his conclusion. The longer we waited, the more Manchester United's name was dragged through the mud."

Meanwhile, several clubs are already waiting in the wings to sign Greenwood. According to Mail Sport, it's unlikely that the single-capped English international will continue to play on English soil. AS Roma, along with other Italian and Turkish clubs, is reportedly competing for his signature. Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq is also mentioned in the rumor mill.
