Harry Maguire has not featured prominently in Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag's plans this season, leading to speculation about the departure of the center-back. However, a transfer seems difficult to realize due to the exorbitant amount that Manchester United is demanding for the defender.
According to Manchester Evening News on Monday morning, the asking price set by The Red Devils could potentially prevent Maguire from leaving Old Trafford. The usually well-informed outlet reports that Manchester United is considering a transfer fee of over fifty million euros for the thirty-year-old defender. It seems unlikely that an interested club would be willing to meet this amount for the British international.
It is surprising that Manchester United is demanding such a high amount for Maguire, considering that the British international has not made a consistently strong impression in the shirt of the English powerhouse. Last season, Erik ten Hag already relied on him less frequently. Maguire participated in sixteen matches, mostly in cup competitions.
Manchester United paid €80 million for the British defender in 2019, which is one of the reasons why they currently have such high expectations. FootballTransfers estimates Maguire's market value to be around €27 million.
