Georges Mikautadze, who scored the second goal in Georgia's 2-0 victory against Portugal in the third round of the Euro 2024 group stage, expressed his satisfaction with his national team's unprecedented advance to the round of 16 and showed no fear about facing Spain.
The 23-year-old forward, who leads the European Championship's top scorer list after also scoring in the loss to Turkey (1-3) and the draw with the Czech Republic (1-1), admitted that he has dreamed since childhood of representing his country in decisive matches of major tournaments and is not worried about Spain's theoretical favoritism.
"I watched these games as a child and always wanted to play in them. Now I am the 'Pichichi' and Georgia is in the round of 16. I am very happy, but we won't stop. The European Championship has just begun. We know our opponent is Spain, but we have to do everything possible to advance to the next stage," he emphasized after scoring a penalty in the 57th minute of the match against the Portuguese national team.
Mikautadze, who also assisted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's opening goal just two minutes into the game, took the opportunity to describe himself as a "technical, fast forward with a nose for goal and a good shot with both feet." He added, "Since I was young, I've trained my left foot to be on par with my right."
