Although Aleksandar Mitrovic reported for his club Fulham's pre-season preparations, the Serbian striker did so with a lot of frustration. Mitrovic is on a collision course with his London-based employer.
That's what Sky Sports knows. The media outlet reports that Mitrovic has told close associates that he never wants to play for Fulham again. After over five years, he wants to close the door on Craven Cottage for a new adventure in Saudi Arabia. Owner Tony Khan is not interested and, perhaps considering the deep pockets of the Saudis, is demanding €60 million for his frontman.
Mitrovic is furious about this and was planning to go on strike. However, his agent and the players' union PFA have persuaded him to report for the tour in the United States. Nevertheless, Mitrovic hopes that Khan will lower his price to a sum between €40 and €50 million. For manager Marco Silva, this is a headache: he can't use a striker with such frustration for the opening match in the Premier League. Fulham will visit Silva's former team Everton on August 12.
Khan is not giving in for now. "If you have enough money, you can get away with anything, even murder. They have certainly tried to sign many good players. It will be interesting to see where this ends. But we are trying to keep our best players. We have a great team, and I'm very excited for the upcoming season," said the owner.
Mitrovic (28) arrived in London in early 2018, following previous stints at Teleoptik and Partizan Belgrade in his homeland, as well as Anderlecht and Newcastle United. In 189 matches for the Whites, he scored an impressive 109 goals. Fulham and Mitrovic celebrated three promotions to the Premier League together.
