PSG prodigy Zaïre-Emery could become the youngest French debutant since 1914

In a team full of star players, Zaïre-Emery regularly got playing time in Paris last season, and this season he has played almost every game as a starter for PSG. The midfielder comes from the club's own youth academy and has played for years in the French national youth teams. Last year, he won the European Championship with France Under-17 by defeating the Netherlands. Zaïre-Emery played the entire final.

National coach Deschamps now deems him ready for the big stage. Thus, Zaïre-Emery will be part of the final phase of the Euro qualifying period. France has already secured a spot at the Euro 2024, currently standing six points above the Netherlands.

Zaïre-Emery may debut on November 18, when France faces Gibraltar. Otherwise, the next (and last) chance in the upcoming international break is against Greece on November 21. If he does make his debut in this international period, there are only four players in French history who debuted at a younger age than Zaïre-Emery, all of whom were active before the outbreak of World War I. In 2020, Eduardo Camavinga also debuted at seventeen years old, he was then a month older than Zaïre-Emery is now.
