Upon his return to his old love Sevilla, Sergio Ramos promptly offered his apologies to the fans of the club. The relationship between the Sevilla supporters and the defender had significantly cooled off in recent years.
The last times Ramos returned to the Estadio Sánchez Pizjuán while playing for Real Madrid, he was consistently booed by the home crowd. The animosity towards the Spaniard was primarily due to his departure to Real Madrid, which the Sevilla fans believed had not been handled very gracefully.
By refusing to renew his contract, Real Madrid was able to acquire Ramos for a modest fee, despite many considering him to be worth much more after his strong debut season for Sevilla.
"Today is a very special day for me," Ramos began through the club channels. "I'm finally coming back home, and I can't wait to wear this badge on my chest again." He then turned his attention to the supporters. "It's been eighteen years since I left, and I think I've made mistakes. I want to take this opportunity to offer my apologies."
"I apologize to all those who felt offended by the things I did back then. I believe we're all in the same boat and come from the same family. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you. Returning was not just my wish, but also my grandfather's, who made me a Sevilla fan, and my father's."
