Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico will make his first appearance at Parc des Princes since his severe accident on May 28, as he takes his place in the stands for the Champions League match between PSG and AC Milan on Wednesday.
The thirty-year-old Rico lost consciousness after a severe fall from a horse in his native Andalusia at the end of May. His situation was initially worrisome, and doctors decided to keep the Spaniard in an artificial coma for several weeks. Rico awoke in June and eventually spent 37 days in the intensive care unit.
Teammates at PSG acknowledged Rico's situation in the last league game of the previous season against Clermont, wearing shirts with messages of support. Spectators at Parc des Princes paid tribute to the backup goalkeeper before that home game, giving him a round of applause in the sixteenth minute (in reference to his shirt number 16).
According to Le Parisien, Rico may receive another standing ovation on Wednesday when he attends a PSG game for the first time since the accident in May. The former Sevilla, Fulham, and Real Mallorca goalkeeper has expressed his desire to rejoin PSG's first team before the end of this season.
