Relief at Barça: ruling prevents Gavi from leaving on a free transfer.

Barcelona has successfully appealed against the ruling of a judge that overturned Gavi's registration with La Liga. The club no longer has to fear the activation of the release clause in the eighteen-year-old Spaniard's new contract.

Gavi signed a new contract with Barcelona earlier this year as a reward for his rapid development. However, the contract was later invalidated by a judge due to protests from La Liga. The organization behind the Spanish league refused to approve the contract, citing Barcelona's violation of financial regulations with regards to their salary structure.

On Tuesday, a new ruling was issued, stating that Barcelona can now register the attacking midfielder. Had this not been successful, Gavi would have been available on a free transfer this summer. The player's representatives had included a clause in the contract, stating that it would become null and void if Barcelona couldn't register the player.

That clause is now a thing of the past. Barcelona can proceed with registering Gavi, making the contract valid, and securing the young talent at Camp Nou until mid-2026. The contract includes a fixed release clause of one billion euros.

Barcelona has also reached an agreement with La Liga on a plan of action to improve the financial health of the club. The green light from the league organizer means that the Catalan club can now seriously focus on strengthening their squad for the upcoming season. Almost free-agent Iñigo Martínez, a defender from Athletic de Bilbao, is rumored to be one of the reinforcements.
