De Jong came close to opening the scoring after just two minutes, but he hit the post with a shot from just inside the sixteen-yard box. Throughout the game, the danger from FC Barcelona often stemmed from the Dutch international.

Ten minutes later, FC Barcelona regained the lead. After a long pass from De Jong, Robert Lewandowski was brought down in the sixteen-yard box. The ball went to the penalty spot, Osasuna defender Alejandro Catena received a red card, and Lewandowski converted the penalty.
