Micky van de Ven may end up staying at VfL Wolfsburg for a longer period. According to the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, the Dutchman is coveted by Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Tottenham Hotspur, and he himself is keen to make a move. However, Wolfsburg is eager to retain the 22-year-old defender for another year, and the asking price is reportedly a substantial €40 million.
Van de Ven recently extended his contract until the summer of 2027 in March and has since been earning an annual salary of a remarkable €3 million. This was a clear statement of intent from Wolfsburg's club management, and reports suggest that they are making every effort to retain the defender.
Furthermore, despite rumors of personal terms being agreed between Van de Ven and Tottenham, Wolfsburg's CEO Marcel Schäfer and Sporting Director Sebastian Schindzielorz have not received any concrete offers yet.
If any of the interested clubs were to meet the desired €40 million fee, VfL Wolfsburg still has certain demands for the transfer. Die Wölfe want the Dutch youth international to remain in Wolfsburg for an additional year after the transfer. This would allow them to bid farewell to Maxence Lacroix, who is attracting interest from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The question is whether Tottenham will agree to those conditions, as defensive reinforcement is much needed in North London. Tottenham conceded a whopping 63 goals in the Premier League last season, performing worse than Everton, West Ham United, and Crystal Palace, among others. Furthermore, Tottenham has bid farewell to Clément Lenglet, as the Frenchman is returning to Barcelona after a one-year loan spell. Tottenham is keen on permanently acquiring him this summer, but the Catalan club has reportedly also offered the defender to Juventus.
