West Ham United has approached Ajax for Edson Álvarez. A first offer for the Mexican player will be made soon.
It's clear that Álvarez is aiming to leave Ajax this summer. He had the opportunity to move to Borussia Dortmund, but the talks between Ajax and the German club collapsed at the end of June. Now, a new serious contender, West Ham, has emerged. Ajax is currently negotiating the transfer fee with the Premier League club and is expected to receive a first offer for Álvarez soon. The expected bid is around thirty million euros, while Ajax is hoping for significantly more. Álvarez himself has already reached an agreement with West Ham on a five-year contract.
Although Ajax and West Ham have yet to sit at the negotiating table, Álvarez seems to be heading for the exit. He has already agreed on a five-year contract with the English club. The Mexican player is determined to leave Ajax after four years in Amsterdam and is looking forward to something new. During his time at Ajax, he won the Eredivisie title twice, lifted the KNVB Cup, and reached the knockout stages of the Champions League twice.
If Ajax cashes in on Álvarez, then Director of Football Affairs Sven Mislintat can hit the market with some extra cash. The German is still aiming to secure an additional central defender, and Hiroki Ito is one of the options. VfB Stuttgart rejected an initial offer of twelve million euros, and although no second bid has been submitted from Amsterdam yet, Ajax continues to explore the feasibility of the deal. The top candidate for Ajax remains Josip Sutalo. Talks with Dinamo Zagreb are still ongoing. While the outcome is uncertain, it's good news for Ajax that Sutalo is open to a move to Amsterdam. The club is hopeful of finalizing the transfer of the Croatian international.
Furthermore, there is still a possibility that Edouard Spertsyan might join Ajax. The Board of Commissioners reportedly has ethical concerns due to his nationality (Russia), but the deal still seems to be alive.
