Barcelona must not be blinded by the resounding victory over Real Madrid, emphasizes Xavi. The coach of the Spanish champions believes that his squad is simply too thin.
Barça won 3-0 against its arch-rival in Dallas, but the scoreline could have been different. Real Madrid hit the woodwork five times.
Nevertheless, Xavi was moderately satisfied with his team's performance. "We played against the physically best team in the world. Sometimes you have to accept that it's a matter of suffering. Madrid has a larger squad, with more physical and technical players. We tried to be dominant with our style of play, but many aspects can still be improved. I am happy, it was a good show," the former midfielder told Spanish media.
Fermín López stood out for Barcelona. The twenty-year-old midfielder is getting a chance during the preseason and is on track to seize it. Talent is not lacking in the Spaniard, who scored against Real. Xavi said, "He is hungry and eager. If you show me that on the training ground, you'll get minutes. I constantly tell him that it ultimately depends on his mentality. I like what I see from him. He can be valuable for us in the upcoming season."
Promotion from the youth academy is more than welcome for Xavi. Due to financial problems at Camp Nou, Barcelona is struggling in the transfer market. Nevertheless, Xavi hopes to welcome new signings: "We still have until the end of August, a lot can happen. Hopefully, we can bring in reinforcements because we are a bit short. The sporting director knows that, and so does the president. This result and the current euphoria do not change the fact that we need more."
