Xavi hopes that Barcelona's squad is competitive to contend for trophies this season as well. The club brought in five players to Camp Nou.
Barcelona strengthened its squad with Oriol Romeu (Girona), Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City), Iñigo Martínez (Athletic Bilbao), João Cancelo (Manchester City), and João Félix (Atlético Madrid).
'We will see if we have a better team than last year, but I am very happy,' Xavi said during the press conference. 'The club has done very well, the team has been strengthened effectively. The players who left wanted to leave. After that, we acted quickly to reinforce ourselves.'
'Cancelo is an established player who can play on both flanks. Due to the absence of Ansu Fati and Abdé, we needed reinforcements upfront. João Félix is very talented and made an effort to come. I am very positive. Everyone has done extraordinary work to assemble a competitive team,' he continued.
'There have been moments of tension, but we have played with fair play. Ansu, Abdé, and Eric (Garcia) wanted to leave. That's their decision. We adapted to what we could do. Now we have to prove ourselves.'
Due to financial constraints, Barcelona had limited spending room. Only three million euros were paid for Romeu, the rest came on free transfers or loans (Félix).
